POULTNEY, Vt. – Green Mountain College men's soccer finished up its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) portion of the 2017 schedule with an 8-0 loss to Maine Maritime on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
Green Mountain (1-13-0, 0-9-0 NAC) honored a pair of seniors in a small ceremony as Griffin Shelor and Brandon Bellisssimo were playing in their last home soccer game of the season and were presented with their senior pictures before the game.
Maine Maritime (4-9-3, 3-4-2 NAC) received a quick strike in the 6th minute of play as Ike Doiron opened the scoring off of a pass from Matthew Caron.
Dalton Moore extended the lead to 3-0 as he registered back-to-back goals. The first came off a rebound as Tom Samson's initial shot was turned aside, but Moore found himself in the right place at the right time for the rebound goal. His second marker was an unassisted effort.
Colby Clarke scored his first collegiate goal on a magnificent strike as he was moving laterally across the field about 25 yards from goal and hit a hard liner that found the upper left corner of the net.
Liam Welch helped the Mariners take a 5-0 lead into the half as he scored an unassisted goal in the 35th minute of play.
Maine Maritime continued to press in the second half registering three more goals as Gerald Aquino, Tom Samson and Jesse Pelletier each scored for the visitors.
MMA outshot GMC 32-9 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Joshua Reeks earned the shutout in net for the Mariners with four saves while Griffin Shelor (Cedar Park, Texas) stopped eight shots in the loss.
Green Mountain will finish out its regular season slate of games with a game at Southern Vermont on Wednesday at 3 pm.
