Castleton Blanks GMC 4-0

(October 24, 2009) - Castleton, VT - Senior forward Sean Fitzgerald (Saratoga, NY) netted his eighth goal of the season 17 minutes into to the contest as Castleton went on to defeat Green Mountain College, 4-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer action at Spartan Stadium.

With the win, Castleton improves to 8-6-2 overall and 4-1-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The Eagles fall to 0-12-1 on the season and 0-6-0 in the NAC.

Castleton did all of its damage in the opening half, scoring four unanswered goals.

In the 17th minute, Fitzgerald was robbed by Green Mountain goalkeeper Nate Kishbaugh but found the back of the net off a rebound to put Castleton ahead, 1-0.

Junior midfielder Chris Mullholand (Ridgefield Park, NJ) lengthened the Spartans lead 32 minutes into the half crossing through two defenders in the box before slipping the ball past Kisbaugh in the lower left corner for his sixth goal of the season.

A few moments later, Nick Johnson (Greenwich, NY) scored on a header off a corner kick by teammate Greg Klopfer (Voorheesville, NY) for his first of the season.

Trevor Kotrady (No. Clarendon, VT) added to the lead late in the half

(43:48) sniping a ball into the left corner of the net on a nice feed from teammate Corey Robbins (Barre, VT).

The Spartans outshot the Eagles 42-2 in the game holding Green Mountain shotless in the second half of play.

GMC returns to action Saturday, October 24th when they travel to Lyndon State for a NAC fixture.
