Mountaineers Cruise Past Eagles

(September 15, 2009) - Poultney, VT - The visiting Southern Vermont College Mountaineers used 4 first-half goals to easily dismiss GMC 5-0 in men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon. SVC improves to 4-2 on the season while GMC falls to 0-4-1.
The Eagles were on the back foot from the opening moments under constant pressure from the Mountaineers. SVC finally broke through in the 14th minute when GMC conceded a penalty kick. Junior Tony Martinez (Hoosick Falls, NY) slotted home giving the Mountaineers the only goal they would need.
Sophomore Nick Haggerty (Wyantskill, NY) added a second in the 31st followed by freshman Adrien Alexis (Maplewood, NJ) in the 41st, and Junior Ben Naaktgeboren (Cambridge, NY) netted the 4th goal only 38 seconds later.
Alexis tacked on one final goal in the second half making the final score line 5-0
The Eagles return to action Saturday September 19th when they host Johnson St. in opening match of the North Atlantic Conference season.
