Fighting Blue Jays Edge Eagles

(September 12, 2009) - Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - In the second day of the Bard College Raptors Classic, the NYU Polytechnic Fighting Blue Jays scored midway through the second half and held on for a 1-0 victory. Poly improves to 2-3 on the season while the Eagles fall to 0-3-1.
GMC started the match brightly, earning the majority of possession and moving the ball neatly through the middle of the park. Freshman Jeff Cyrus (Burnt hills, NY) had the first good look at goal, but saw his shot turned past the post by freshman goalkeeper Uriel Moreira (West Palm Beach, FL) who notched 7 saves on the afternoon. Freshman Chris Gaskin (Atlanta, GA) had several opportunities, but was unable to trouble Moriera.
After the interval, GMC again applied pressure up the park, but it was Poly senior Deigo Schwartz (Rego Park, NY) who slipped beyond an Eagle defender against the run of play and capitalized in the 64th minute.
After falling flat after the goal, GMC once again looked dangerous going forward, however were unable to find the equalizer.
Freshman Nate Kishbaugh (Niskayuna, NY) and Gaskin were named to the All-Tournament team for their outstanding work over the weekend.
GMC returns to action Tuesday September 15th when they host Raptor Classic champions Southern Vermont College. The mountaineers defeated Poly 2-0 on Friday followed by a 3-2 victory over host Bard College Saturday. Kick-off is 4 pm.
