Eagles Falter In Tight Match

September 28, 2008 Poultney, VT

Thomas College's third and final goal 22 minutes into the second half proved enough to hold of Green Mountain College in men's soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Thomas opened their scoring account in the 24th minute when Tim Costa broke free of the GMC backs and beat keeper Ryder Ritchie to the back post.  The Eagles regrouped and, after a spell of pressure on the Thomas back four, found the back of the net through Tibersious Seendawula in the 29th minute.  GMC nearly broke the deadlock minutes later when another strike from Ssendawula struck the underside of the crossbar.  Thomas would take a 2-1 lead into the break after Mark Correy capitalized on a 1v1 opportunity.

The game opened up in the second half and Thomas finished their scoring on a counter attack up the left flank.  GMC refused to quit and had several quality scoring opportunities in the final 20 minutes before finding a second goal with 19 seconds remaining.

Green Mountain forced the Thomas keeper into 6 saves on 13 shots while Ritchie made 6 stops on 18 shots.

Green Mountain is in action again on Wednesday, October 1, at MCLA.
