DELHI, N.Y. - Green Mountain College wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 24-3 non-conference loss to SUNY Delhi on a sunny Monday afternoon at the Delhi Lacrosse Field.
Green Mountain (1-10) quickly jumped on top less than a minute into the game as Dominic Wright (Queens, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal at the 14:20 mark of the first quarter to give the Eagles the early lead. The goal was his ninth of the season and brought his career tally to 23. That lead proved to be short-lived, however, as SUNY Delhi (4-10) responded with two goals within the next two minutes to take a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest. The Broncos scored eight-straight goals to take an 8-1 lead before GMC's Chris Surdam (Plymouth, Mass.) pumped in his 10th goal of the season coming from Deven Rogers (Oxford, Maine) on a man-up opportunity to make it 8-2.
Delhi would add seven more goals before halftime, including a pair from Luke Anderson, to extend its lead to 15-2 at the break.
The Eagles could only muster a single tally in the second half while watching the hosts record nine more goals as the season came to a close. Will Durant (Plymouth Mass.) notched his 11th goal of the campaign on a feed from Jay Levesque (Marlborough, Mass.) in the third quarter.
Cameron Book (Poultney, Vt.) and Durant each led the team with five groundballs on the afternoon while Aaron Sanchez (Plainfield, N.J.) paced the team with a pair of caused turnovers. Blake Hay (Damariscotta, Maine) closed out his collegiate career with 11 face-off wins to give him 302 for his career.
Chelsea Wimble, (Colchester, Vt.) who made 12 saves in defeat for the Eagles between the pipes, finishes her season ranked 2nd in the North Atlantic Conference in regular season conference saves (97).
The Eagles will spend the offseason making preparations for their jump to play within the NAIA next year.
