CASTLETON, Vt. – Coming off of a 15-goal emotional, come-from-behind win against Johnson in their previous game, the Green Mountain College men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-1 loss to Maine Maritime Academy on Friday morning in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Spartan Stadium.
With the victory the Mariners improve to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while Green Mountain falls to 1-7 on the season and 1-4 in the NAC. The Mariners return to action tomorrow when they travel to take on Lyndon State College.
The Mariners jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back while dominating time of possession throughout the game.
Tom Anderson led the Mariners with a hat trick and six assists, while also scooping up three groundballs. Sawyer Watson added a game-high five goals, two groundballs and a caused turnover and Orion Sargent added four goals, six ground balls, and a caused turnover. Zeke Tocci added a hat-trick, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist.
In net Isaiah Weston earned the victory for the Mariners, making two saves in the first quarter, and teammate Matthew Emery tallied three saves in three quarters of play.
Chris Surdam (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied the lone goal for the Eagles as he broke in on the right side after curling from around the net and fired a laser beam that beat the goalie through the wickets. Finnian Arnold-Swanstrom (Washburn, Wis.) led the team defensively with three caused turnovers. Chelsea Wimble (Colchester, Vt.) stopped eight shots in net in the loss.
The Eagles are scheduled to host SUNY Cobleskill in a makeup of a rescheduled game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Burr and Burton Academy.
