CASTLETON, Vt. - Castleton University held Green Mountain to just a single goal and received multiple goals from six players as the Spartans cruised to a 21-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over the Eagles in men's lacrosse action on a blustery Wednesday night at Spartan Stadium.
Castleton (4-5, 2-0 NAC) opened the scoring at the 13:29 mark of the first quarter when Jason Sedell converted on a pass from Kevin McCarthy. The Spartans would add five more first quarter goals to extend its lead to 6-0 by the close of play.
The Spartans added eight second half goals to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was again all Castleton as the Spartan's offense cashed in five more goals.
The Eagles held the Spartans to just a pair of goals in the final stanza.
Sedell led the Spartans with a game-high four goals. Sam Siegel led Castelton in points with a pair of goals and three assists. McCarthy, Tyler Crowningshield, Wyatt Pickrell and Matt Gomes joined Siegel with two goals each. Josh Gosselin was sterling at the face-off X winning 19-of-24 face-offs while collecting a game-high 12 groundballs.
Deven Rogers (Oxford, Maine) grabbed a pair of groundballs for the Eagles.
Brandon Myron recorded the win in net for Castleton and was backed up by Maxx Ingison and Dakota Jones. Jones was the lone goalie of the trio to face a shot on net and stopped three. Chelsea Wimble (Colchester, Vt.) backstopped the Eagles making an impressive 16 saves in the loss.
Both teams will be back in action this Saturday as the Eagles host Lyndon St. at Castleton while the Spartans travel to Husson to battle the Eagles.
