POULTEY, Vt. – New England College received goals from 12 different scorers in the Pilgrims' 30-1 victory over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on a rainy and chilly Wednesday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
With the win the Pilgrims' record improved to 9-5 overall and the team maintained its undefeated mark in conference play at 5-0. The Eagles fell to 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the NAC.
The Pilgrims' 30 goals marked a season-high with James Angelicola, Jarred Sausville and Jacob Blanchette all tying for four goals apiece. Matt Richard was the leading point getter on the day with three goals and eight assists. Chase Begin notched a hat trick and five assists while Mike Ring also tallied three goals and helped with two assists. Austin Franklin registered an impressive 18-20 mark at the face-off X and led all players with 11 groundballs.
GMC received its lone goal from Dominic Wright who fired home a shot after taking a feed from Patrick Carey. Deven Rogers led the Eagles with six groundballs while Brandon Bellissimo paced the team with six wins at the face-off X.
NEC built up a substantial lead very quickly and by the end of the first quarter the score was 13-1 as Wright's goals closed the scoring in the opening stanza. By halftime the visitors had grown that lead to 21-1 and put the offense in cruise control for the remainder of the game, cycling the ball in the final period while substituting liberally.
William Aufranc posted the win in net for the Pilgrims without making a save, while Daniel Tibbrine stopped two shots in his second half action between the pipes. GMC's Carl Diethelm made 11 saves in net in the loss.
Green Mountain will host Thomas College on Saturday in the team's home finale for senior day. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
