Eagles Downed by Mariners

MANCHESTER, Vt. – The Green Mountain College men's lacrosse team suffered its fifth loss of the season, 27-1, at the hands of Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Burr and Burton Academy. 

The Eagles fell to 0-5, 0-2 NAC on the season while the Mariners improved to 1-7, 1-2 NAC. 

The Mariners received goals from 10 different players, led by Dean Samuelson who scored seven goals. The visitors got four goals from both Zachary Doucette and Andrew Waltz with Doucette also picking up four assists. Michael Martel and Alex Grant-Roy enjoyed a hat trick with Grant-Roy notching four assists and a game-high 12 groundballs. 

Deven Rogers tallied the lone Green Mountain goal. Ethan Cooper led the team in groundballs and caused turnovers with five and two, respectively. 

Chelsea Wimble made 10 saves for the Eagles in the loss while Mariners' George Doe and Daniel Lee each played a half. Doe finished with three saves while Lee registered two stops. 

Green Mountain will take to the road on Sunday for a makeup of a previously postponed game against Wheelock at 12 p.m. in its next scheduled contest.
