BANGOR, Maine—Green Mountain (0-3, 0-1 NAC) was defeated by Husson University (2-3, 1-0 NAC) 23-2 Saturday afternoon in the first conference action of the year for both teams.
Husson was led by attackman Brooks Gay as he recorded nine goals and four assists for 13 points.
Husson opened up the scoring early with a goal from Zach Glazier, his first of two on the day, at the 13:56 mark in the first quarter. The hosts went on to score eight more unanswered goals, with four from Gay, before Green Mountain College hopped on the board with a goal from David Gerken 2:31 into the second quarter.
Husson regained momentum after trading goals with Green Mountain, to bring the score to 11-2 at the 10:40 mark of the third quarter after a goal by GMC's Chris Surdam. Husson closed out the game with 12 unanswered goals en route to its first conference win of the year.
Jacob Boothby and Mitch Spurr both recorded hat tricks for the high-octane Husson offense.
Husson goalie Matt Martin recorded 8 saves in the game while Green Mountain's Carl Diethelm made an impressive 17 stops tying a career-high.
The Eagles will be back in action against SUNY Cobleskill on Thursday.
