GMC Falls in Battle of the Eagles

NASHUA, N.H. – Tre Mason posted six goals and added an assist and a trio of Eagles added four goals each as Daniel Webster captured its season home opener with a 21-5 victory over Green Mountain on Monday night in a contest played at Raider Field at Rivier University. 

Gavin Abbot posted seven points with four goals and three assists, and both Tanner Todd and Sean Donahue notched four goals and two assists apiece as the Eagles evened their early record at 1-1. 

Brandon Beard chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist, and Brian Visco had a goal and two assists for the winners. Matt Capozzi finished with a game-high six groundballs and was 13 of 16 on face-offs. 

Chris Surdam and David Gerken notched a pair of goals each for Green Mountain (0-2) with Gerken adding a team-best five groundballs. 

James Bushey picked up the win in goal (1-1), making 13 saves. Carl Diethelm turned aside 10 shots for GMC. 

The hosts, who finished 11-1 all-time in a series that began in 2004, built the lead early on scoring twice in the opening three minutes, led 4-0 after one quarter and pulled away with an eight-goal second to lead 12-1 at the half. DWC led 16-2 after three. 

The hosts outshot GMC 31-18 on goal, finished with a 20-8 advantage on face offs and doubled up their foes in grounders (46-21). DWC also went 4 for 10 on the man advantage while holding GMC to 0 for 8. 

Green Mountain opens its home slate on Saturday, facing Cobleskill State at 1 p.m.
