Big first half propels Hornets past Eagles


(Fort Ann, N.Y.) – The Lyndon State College Hornets tallied 12 unanswered goals spanning the first two quarters en route to a comfortable 16-6 victory over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic (NAC) Conference men’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Golden Goal Tournament Park.

The win was Lyndon’s first of the season (1-3, 1-0) while the Eagles fall to 1-3 (0-1).   

Max Ercole (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) tallied a game-high six markers for the Hornets including five of their first nine.  Chris Monsour (Mansfield, Mass.) added four goals and one assist while Dan Randall (Delmar, N.Y.) chipped in with three tallies.  Matt Reynolds (New Fairfield, Conn.) finished a superb afternoon in goal with 16 saves on 40 shots faced.

Matt Tarricone (Oneonta, N.Y.) notched the first of his team-high three goals at the 12:44 mark of the first quarter giving GMC an early 1-0 edge. Three minutes later, however, Ercole however, leveled the score with his first of the day, spurring the Hornets’ big run.

Ethan Whaley (Exeter, N.H.) notched eight saves in goal for the Eagles in the losing effort.

Green Mountain returns to action next Saturday when they resume NAC play at Maine Maritime Academy (1:00 pm) while Lyndon heads to Thomas the same day (1:00 pm).
