Green Mountain Drops NAC Decision to Castleton

Castleton, VT - Castleton received at least one goal from 13 different
players, and multiple goals from five, in a 20-2 win over Green Mountain
College in North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday
evening.

The Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Ryan Bartlett and
Andrew Shea, before Green Mountain answered with a Steve Braunius tally
to cut the lead to 2-1. Castleton scored the final three goals of the
period, one each from Phil Barry, Michael Martinez and Jake Rick to take
a 5-1 lead.

Bartlett made it 6-1 with his second of the game, scoring with the
Spartans playing a man down with 13:20 remaining in the period. Green
Mountain's Max Talsky scored to make it 6-2, before Martinez ended the
first half scoring to give Castleton a 7-2 lead at halftime.

The second half was all Castleton, as the Spartans controlled play,
out-shooting the Eagles 29-1 over the final 30 minutes and holding a
41-17 edge in ground balls.

Martinez finished the day with three goals and two assists, while
Bartlett added three assists to his two goals. Jeremy Peyton scored
three goals, while Korey Counos and James Bascom each added two for the
3-3 (3-0 NAC) Spartans.

Michael Mamunes started in goal for Castleton and stopped two shots in
the first period, before giving way to freshman, David DeGhetto who
stopped six shots, including five in the second period.

Keith Drinkwine stopped 11 shots in the loss for 0-5 (0-4 NAC) Green
Mountain.

Castleton will travel to Norwich tomorrow afternoon for a 4:00 pm
non-conference match-up. Green Mountain is off until Saturday when the
Eagles play host to NAC foe Emerson at 12 noon.
