POULTNEY, Vt. – David Albright of Johnson State earned medalist honors to help Johnson State College take top spot in the 2017 Green Mountain College Invitational at Lake St. Catherine Country Club on Saturday in overcast and blustery conditions.
Johnson earned an easy victory entering the clubhouse with a team score of 343 which was 34 shots better than second place Norwich. Green Mountain took third place with a team score of 430.
Albright shot the lowest front and back nine scores of the day in besting the field with his final tally of 79.
Teammate Philip Lyon and Sage's Blake Pritchard tied for second overall with a score of 85. Green Mountain's Coleman Ashworth (Radford, Va) took third place with a score of 87, while Norwich's Mike Moschella and Sage's Taylor Schnaible rounded out the top five by both shooting 88.
GMC's Will Durant (Plymouth, Mass.) was second for the Eagles with a score of 90. Andrew Weidele (Moosup, Ct.) had a 125 in his first collegiate tournament, while Chris Surdam (Plymouth, Mass.) shot a 128.
Green Mountain will prepare for the MCLA Golf Classic which will take place at the Berkshire Country Club on Thursday.
