JOHNSON, Vt. – The Green Mountain College golf team was led by a pair of Eagles who braved the cool and blustery conditions at Rocky Ridge Golf Course on Friday.
Strong winds played havoc with most shots on the day and the cooler temperatures did not help with feel for the game as the lowest round of the day was 11 shots over the par 72 course.
The Eagles were paced by freshman Coleman Ashworth (Radford, Va.) who was playing in his first collegiate round of his career. The first year golfer shot a 98 while battling the weather and the excitement of his first round of the year.
Chris Surdam (Plymouth, Mass.) was the only other Eagle to compete on Friday and he finished 18 with a score of 121.
The Eagles will return to the practice tees this week to work on their game in preparation for next Saturday's home tournament at Lake St. Catherine Country Club.
