POULTNEY, Vt. – The Green Mountain College men's golf program welcomes its first member to the incoming class of 2017 as Coleman Ashworth signed his NCAA Division III athletic celebratory signing form and will be a presence on the tee blocks for the Eagles this upcoming season.
"Adding a player in the mold of Coleman Ashworth is terrific for our young program after having graduated several players this year," said Jenkins. "His success at the high school level will serve him well in his adjustment to college tournament play. He is just the type of golfer and student who will fit Green Mountain and our team to a tee and will be a big part of GMC golf for many years to come."
Ashworth was a big part of the successful golf program at Radford High in Virginia where he helped the Bobcats to a conference championship in 2013 and 2015. He earned Group 1A West Western Gate Conference 45 All-Conference recognition from 2014-2016 as well as being named All-District in 2015 and 2016. As a senior this past season, he produced a scoring average of 86.
Ashworth's high school coach Cody Roberts had nothing but praise for his former pupil.
"Coleman has always been a moldable golfer," said Roberts. "Over the last four years he has remained one of the most coachable golfers on my roster. He works hard and has the ability to be an outstanding golfer."
A prospective Renewable Energy and Ecological Design major, Ashworth is excited to begin his career as an Eagle.
"Coach Jenkins contacted me about playing golf for Green Mountain College and after some research and a [campus] visit I fell in love with GMC," said Ashworth. "I love the campus and the area around the College. I cannot wait to start my college career at GMC."
