Cross Country Set to Host 3rd Annual Invitational Meet

(October 16, 2009) - Poultney, VT - The Green Mountain College men and women's cross country teams are set to host the 2nd Annual GMC Invitational Meet on Saturday, October 17th after 5 weeks on the road.

86 total runners will be competing from 6 institutions including Albany College of Pharmacy, Hudson Valley Community College, NAC rival Johnson St., Southern Vermont College, and Word of Life Bible Institute.

The 3-year-old course accommodates both 5k (women) and 8k (men) races and winds its way through campus and alongside the neighboring Poultney River.  The well-groomed course is relatively flat making for fast overall times.

The GMC women have captured a pair of 2nd place finishes this season and are fresh off a 7th place finish at the Vermont Collegiate meet.  Nicole Horvath (Fort Edward, NY) has paced the Eagles thus far claiming the top-spot in all 5 races.

The men have seen significant improvement over the course of the season and will once again rely on freshman stand-out Chris Donovan (Bedford, MA) to lead the squad.  Donovan has finished tops for the Eagles in each race this season including 11th in his most recent race at Me.-Farmington.

The women's race is set to begin at 11:00 am while the men head off at 11:45.
