Spartans Out-Shoot Eagles

(Oct 18, 2008 Poultney, VT)- Castleton State College defeated Green Mountain College 9-0 in today's North Atlantic Conference match-up. The Eagles hung tough in the first half, holding the Spartans scoreless until Ryan Hahn took a pass from Greg Klopfer inside the 6 yard box and finished the ball. The only goal of the half, sent the Spartans into the break with the lead and the momentum heavily in their favor.
After needing 41 minutes to get onto the board in the opening half, Castleton wasted no time, when Jon Vogt started the scoring in the second half finding the back of the net from outside the 18 yard box off a feed from Ryan Hahn. The Spartans struck again 9 minutes later when Greg Klopfer scored an unassisted goal with 32:24 remaining in the half, and Ryan Hahn added his second goal of the match 30 seconds later off of a pass from Gerrit Marino.
Castleton would continue to pour it on, as Gerrit Marino added 3 goals to his earlier assist, and Josh Cook rounded out the scoring with a late goal. The Eagles fell to 2-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play, and the Spartans improved to 9-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Green Mountain will finish the regular season next Saturday at home versus Lyndon State, and the Spartans return to the pitch Wednesday October 22nd when they travel to Plymouth State for a non-conference match-up.
