Men’s Basketball Set for Big Conference Weekend

The men's basketball team (8-4) overall and (0-2) in conference play look to pick up a pair of road victories this weekend when they visit Husson College and Maine Maritime Academy. 

Husson enters Friday night's contest with a (5-9) mark on the season and are (2-1) in conference play after picking up victories over Thomas College (76-72) and Maine Maritime (72-36) last week.  In their most recent game, Husson dropped a (70-82) decision to U-Maine Farmington.  The Eagles are led by junior forward Matt Mckenzie (Warren, ME) who is averaging a team high 15.2 ppg and 5.4 rpg.  Junior guard Brock Bradford (Kenduskeag, ME) and sophomore forward Jay Urhin (Winterport, ME) are also averaging double figure points with 14.0 and 10.1 respectively. 

As a team, Husson is scoring at a 73.3 ppg clip, shooting 43.3% from the field, while allowing opponents 73.9 ppg on 46.6% shooting. 

Maine Maritime also carries a (5-9) season and (1-2) record into Saturday afternoon's game on the heels of two straight conference losses to Husson (36-72) and Thomas (80-83).  The Mariners, who average 68.6 ppg, are led by senior guard Derek Defrederico (Millinocket, ME) who is averaging 14.8 ppg while shooting 42.7% from the field.  Senior forward Jake Manner (Frankfort, ME) is averaging 12.1 ppg and leads the team in rebounding with 8.3 per game.  

GMC head's into the weekend after a disappointing (0-2) conference start, having lost 3 of 4 after a (7-1) start.  The Eagles are led by senior Fabian Ferreira (Brooklyn, NY) averaging 17.4 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field.  Sophomore Gerard Johnson (Binghamton, NY) is chipping in with 13 ppg while collecting 10.8 rpg.  The Eagles are averaging 69.3 ppg while allowing 67.1 and are out rebounding opponents by a 1.6 rpg margin.
