GMC Topples Husson On Senior Day

Green Mountain College shot 60.8% from the field and 61.9% from beyond the arc to beat conference leaders Husson University Saturday afternoon (99-96).  With the win the Eagles finish the regular season with a (7-7) conference mark and (15-10) overall.  Husson falls to (11-3) in the NAC and (14-11) on the season.

After falling behind (7-0) early in first half, senior Scott McGuiness (Middletown, CT) drained three buckets from 3-point land.  McGuiness finished the first half with 15 points on 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc and was a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe.  Junior Rui Carmo (Fort Meyers, FL) added 11 in the opening stanza and senior Fabian Ferriera (Queens, NY) chipped in 10 to help GMC to a 7-point halftime advantage (47-40).

The hot shooting for the Eagles continued in the second half and they never relinquished the lead.  Ferriera finished with a team-high 22 points on 8-11 shooting.  He was joined with double-digit points by McGuiness who finished with 18, Carmo hit for 21, senior Rich Bailey (Bronx, NY) chipped in 11, and sophomore Gerard Johnson (Binghamton, NY) who added 17.

With the win, the Eagles ensured their place in the upcoming NAC tournament.  Seedings will be announced Sunday night.
