Eagles notch season's first victory

Green Mountain College overcame a slow start to defeat Bard College in Saturday's consolation game of D'Youville's AD Pro Classic in Buffalo, NY. Bard jumped out to an early lead, and built a 16 point advantage with ten minutes remaining in the first half, before the Eagles whittled the deficit to one at 40-39 at the break.

Green Mountain then battled foul trouble and a game Raptors squad in a contest that went down to the wire. Leading by 3 with 1:30 to play, Bard cut the Eagles lead to 1 on a basket by Justin White with just under a minute remaining. After an Eagles miss, Bard had an opportunity to take the lead, but Green Mountain's defense stiffened, and Green Mountain's Gerard Johnson was fouled after securing the rebound on Bard's miss. Johnson sank one of two free throws to put GMC up by 2, and the Eagles held on for the win as White's three point attempt bounced off the rim as time expired.

Green Mountain placed four players in double figures, led by Gerard Johnson(Binghamton, NY) who had 19 points and 12 rebounds, Bryson Greene(Bronx, NY) and Fabian Ferreira(Queens, NY) each added 13 points, and Herley Pellew(Brooklyn, NY) added 10 points and 5 rebounds. The Eagles improved to 1-1 on the season, and will return to action on December 3rd, vs Paul Smith's at 7:30pm.
