Eagles Complete Succesful Winter Season
March 1st, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – The Green Mountain College winter sports season came to a conclusion last weekend with the men’s basketball team exiting the North Atlantic Conference tournament in the semifinal round. As spring sports are set to gear up, here is a look back at the 2009-10 season.

February 26, 2010
Men’s Basketball Bounced from NAC Tourney
February 26th, 2010 – (Farmington, ME) – The host and #1 seed University of Maine Farmington Beavers reeled off the games first ten points en route to a wire-to-wire 77-59 victory in the North Atlantic Conference semifinals Friday night. The Beavers advance to the NAC championship Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm where they face Castleton State who cruised to an 82-65 victory over Thomas College in the other semifinal. The Eagles end the season with a 9-17 mark.

Eagles Set For NAC Semifinals
February 25th, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – The Green Mountain College men’s basketball team heads to Maine for the third time in eight days Friday evening to face the #1 seed University of Maine Farmington Beavers in the North Atlantic Conference semifinals. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.

NAC Announces Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team, Carmo named POTY
February 24th, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) - Green Mountain senior forward Rui Carmo (Cape Coral, FL) was named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches Wednesday afternoon. Carmo currently leads the nation in scoring average with a 25.6 points per game average.

Eagles Stun Husson, Advance to NAC Semifinals
February 23rd, 2010 – (Bangor, ME) – Tied at 66 with just over a minute remaining, senior Eddie Asieduo (Bronx, NY) drilled a three pointer and Rui Carmo (Cape Coral, FL) went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe as the visiting Green Mountain College Eagles stunned #4 Husson University 72-68 in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference Tournament.

Men’s Basketball: Eagles Set for NAC Tournament Tuesday
February 22nd, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – After a roller-coaster season for head coach Todd Montana and the Green Mountain College men’s basketball team, the Eagles find themselves in a familiar position: entering post-season play. GMC will head to Husson University Tuesday evening for a 6:00 pm matchup in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference tournament.

Eagles Hold Off Mariners, Claim Spot in NAC Tournament
February 20th, 2010 - (Castine, Maine) - Senior forward Rui Carmo (Cape Coral, FL) scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds propelling Green Mountain College to a 62-57 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference match up. With the win the Eagles secured the #5 spot in the upcoming playoffs while the Mariners season comes to a close.

Men's Basketball: Husson 98, Eagles 68
February 19th, 2010 – (Bangor, ME) – Husson University shot 53.7 percent from the field and featured 12 different scorers en route to a 98-68 blowout over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Friday night. The hosts enter their final regular season contest tomorrow with a 14-10 (8-5, NAC) record while the Eagles fall to 7-16 (4-10, NAC).

Men's Basketball: Final Weekend to Secure Play-Off Berth
February 18, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – After a grueling three month 22 game season, the Green Mountain College men’s basketball play-off hopes boil down to a 24-hour, two-game road swing this weekend. The Eagles head to Husson University Friday night at 8:00 pm followed by a Saturday meeting with Maine Maritime Academy at 4:00 pm.

Panthers Topple Eagles in Final Home Contest
February 16th, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – The visiting Middlebury College Panthers opened a 19 point halftime lead and cruised to a 76-57 victory over Green Mountain College in men’s basketball action Tuesday night. Middlebury, currently ranked sixth in the nation (D3Hoops.com), improve to 22-2 on the season while the Eagles fall to 7-15.

Eagles Host #6 Middlebury Tuesday Night
February 15th, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – After splitting a pair of North Atlantic Conference games last weekend, the Green Mountain College men’s basketball team returns to action Tuesday night in their final regular-season home contest of the year. In what will likely be their most stern test of the year, the Eagles square-off against Middlebury College, currently ranked sixth in the country (D3Hoops.com). Tip-off set for 7:00 pm at the Eagle Dome.

Late GMC Rally Falls Short
February 12th, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – Green Mountain College fell to conference foes Thomas College Saturday night by a margin of 69-70 in North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action. The Eagles, now 7-14 (4-8 NAC), remain near the bottom of the conference standings with hopes of a playoff berth still in sight with two conference games remaining on the season. The visiting Terriers improve to (15-7, 7-5 NAC) and currently sit 3rd in the conference table.

February 12th, 2010- (Poultney, VT) – The Green Mountain College Eagles went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe in the final minute and 13-of-18 on the night, edging the University of Maine Farmington 63-61 in North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Friday night.

February 9th, 2010 - (Castleton, VT) - The Castleton State College men’s basketball team shot better than fifty-percent from the field, knocked in 7-of-12 from three-point distance, en route to a 72-62 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over Green Mountain College Tuesday evening at Glenbrook Gymnasium.

February 6th, 2010- (Poultney, VT) – Junior forward Gerard Johnson’s (Binghamton, NY) three-point effort clanged off the back-iron as time expired handing Johnson State College a hard-fought 66-64 victory in North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Saturday night. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 6-12 (3-6, NAC) while the Badgers nab their second conference win of the season (2-7) and fifth overall (5-14).

The Eagles fall to 5-11 on the season (2-5, NAC) while the Beavers improve to 6-1 in conference play (6-10, overall).

Eagles Nab Win Over Terriers
January 30th, 2010 - (Waterville, Me) - Green Mountain College Eagles handed Thomas College only their third loss of the year 80-73 as Rui Carmo (Cape Coral, FL) scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The loss was only the 3rd of the year for the Terriers who fall to 12-3 (4-3, NAC) while the Eagles improve to 5-10 (2-4, NAC).

January 23rd, 2010 – (Poultney, VT) – Husson University’s Matt MacKenzie (Warren, ME) tallied 16 of his team-high 26 points and Brock Bradford (Kenduskeag, ME) notched a double-double to lead the visitors to an 86-66 victory over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon. Husson improves to 10-5 (4-1, NAC) while the Eagles fall to 4-9 and 1-3 in conference play.

MMA improves to 5-9 (1-3, NAC) while GMC drops to 4-8 on the season and 1-2 in the NAC.

January 21st, 2010 - (Poultney, VT) - After an 11-game road trip to open the 2009-10 season, the Green Mountain College men’s basketball team heads into tomorrow night’s home opener against Maine Maritime Academy with a 4-7 record and 1-1 mark in the North Atlantic Conference.

January 19th, 2009 - (Johnson, VT) - The Green Mountain College men’s basketball team halted their three-game skid, edging the Johnson St. College Badgers 75-73 in North Atlantic Conference action Tuesday night. The combination of Rui Carmo (Fort Meyers, FL) and Trent Morgan (Streetsboro, OH) tallied 52 of the Eagles 75 points in the win. January 16th, 2010 - (Aurora, NY) - The Wells College men’s basketball team (9-4) led by 18 points after the first half and continued to roll in the second half blowing out visiting Green Mountain College Eagles (3-7) 103-63 on Saturday afternoon at Wells. Darrell Bullock led the Express with a team high 29 points, while Juan Paulino added an impressive 17 points, 17 rebounds, seven assist, six steals, and five blocks. Rui Carmo led the Eagles in the loss with 33 points and 17 rebounds.

With the loss GMC drops to 3-5 on the season.

December 13th, 2009 – (Paul Smith’s, NY) – The Green Mountain College men’s basketball team shot 57.4% from the field and five players scored in double-figures en route to a 91-59 victory over NAIA Sunrise Conference foe Paul Smith’s College Saturday afternoon. The Eagles, who started the season 0-4, have won three straight to complete their 1st semester slate with a 3-4 mark while the Bobcats drop to 1-13 and are winless in their last 13 contests. December 10th, 2009 - (Henniker, NH) - Green Mountain College’s Abraham Saccoh (New York, NY) hit a layup with just 28 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the visiting Eagles past the New England College Pilgrims 75-74 Thursday evening. With the win the Eagles improve to 2-4 on the season while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 5-4 overall.

The win is the 1st in the season for the Eagles (1-4) while SJC drops to (3-7).

December 5th, 2009 – (Northfield, VT) – The Wesleyan Cardinals opened up a 25-8 lead midway through the 1st half and cruised to comfortable 80-59 victory over the Green Mountain College Eagles in men’s basketball action Saturday evening. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 3-2 on the season and advance to the final of the Norwich University Hockenbury Tournament where they face the host Cadets who beat St. Joseph’s College (VT) 69-58. GMC, winless at 0-4, face the Saints (3-6) for the 2nd time this season at 1:00 pm Sunday.

December 4th, 2009 – (Poultney, VT) – After a 2 week break, the 0-3 Green Mountain College men’s basketball team looks to pick-up their 1st win of the season this weekend at the Hockenbury Tournament hosted by Norwich University. The Eagles face NESCAC power Wesleyan College Saturday at 8:00 pm followed by a match-up with either the host Cadets or the College of St. Joseph’s (VT) on Sunday.

December 3rd, 2009 – (Poultney, VT) – Following a comprehensive 63-44 victory over the Fisher College Lady Falcons on Tuesday and winners of two on the trot, the Green Mountain College women’s basketball team looks to continue the trend this weekend at the Merry Monk Tournament hosted by St. Joseph’s College (ME). The Eagles square off against Me.-Fort Kent Friday evening at 5:30 pm followed by a Saturday afternoon clash with either the host Monks or Me.-Presque Isle.

November 21st, 2009 – (Rochester, NY) – GMC was unable to hold on to a 6 point halftime lead, falling 63-50 to Brockport St. on the 2nd day of the Chuck Resler tournament at the University of Rochester Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 0-3 while the Brockport remains perfect at 3-0.

Yellowjackets Too Much for GMC
November 20th, 2009 - (Rochester, NY) - The University of Rochester (1-0) took advantage of cold shooting in the first half by visiting Green Mountain College and went on to a 68-59 victory in the opening round of the Chuck Resler Classic at the Louis Alexander Palestra. Green Mountain hit just 29% from the floor in the first half (7 of 24) and committed 12 turnovers leading to 16 Rochester points. The Yellowjackets hit 56% from the floor and opened a 43-22 lead at the break en route to victory.

Eagles Face Rochester at Chuck Resler Tournament Friday
November 19th, 2009 – (Poultney, VT) – Following a disappointing double-overtime loss to cross-town NAIA rival College of St. Joseph’s in the season opener Monday night, the Green Mountain College men’s basketball team looks to pick up their first win of the season this weekend when they travel to the University of Rochester for the 26th annual Chuck Resler Tournament. The Eagles square off against the host Yellowjackets Friday, November 20th at 8:00 pm followed by a 1:00 pm Saturday meeting with Brockport.

GMC Drops Opener in 2 OT
November 16th, 2009 – Rutland, VT – The College of St. Joseph Fighting Saints battled back from a 14 point 2nd half deficient to force overtime where, in the 2nd extra period, they pulled away for a hard-fought 87-82 victory over the visitors from Green Mountain College. CSJ improves to 2-0 on the young season while the Eagles drop to 0-1.

Men’s Basketball Set to Tip-Off 2009-2010 Season
November 15th, 2009 – (Poultney, VT) - The Green Mountain College men’s basketball team enters the 2009-2010 campaign Monday at the College of St. Joesph’s (VT) at 7:00 pm looking to build on two consecutive winning seasons. The Eagles return 4 members of last year’s 16-11 squad including a pair of all-conference honorees in Gerard Johnson (Bingahmton, NY) and Rui Carmo (Cape Coral, FL). A junior forward, Johnson led Green Mountain in rebounding with 10.9 rpg, and was third on the team in scoring at 13.4 ppg while Carmo led the team in scoring with 17.6 ppg and was second in rebounding with 7.8 rpg.

November 12, 2009 – (Poultney, VT) – The Green Mountain College men’s basketball team was picked to finish 4th in the North Atlantic Conference today. The pre-season poll, as voted on by the coaches, places the Eagles behind Husson University (1), Thomas, and Me.-Farmington.
