GMC Drops Conference Contest

The visiting Terriers of Thomas College held off a late Green Mountain College charge to notch a North Atlantic Conference victory Saturday afternoon (79-73).  With the loss the Eagles fall to (10-7) overall and (2-5) in conference play while the Terriers improve to (9-7) and (6-2).

The Eagles were forced to play catch-up for most of the game after falling behind by as many as 10 in the first half.  The Terriers shot 46.4% in the opening stanza while limiting the home side to 41.9%.

Thomas stretched their advantage to 14 2 minutes into the second half before the Eagles systematically chipped away at the lead and, with 2:44 left, pulled to within 2.  The Terriers, however, forced 2 turnovers in the final 1:30 and made 5 of 7 free throws to put GMC away.

Thomas had 4 players reach double figure points on the night.  Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) led the way with 18 on 7 for 15 shooting from the field followed by Shawn Rodgers (Philadelphia, PA) and Isaiah Brathwaite (Farmington, ME) with 16 each.  James Liebowitz (Winslow, ME) rounded out the scoring with 15 points.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Gerard Johnson (Bingamton, NY) who recorded a season-high 27 points on 10 for 23 shooting from the field.  Johnson also grabbed 14 boards, had 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.  Senior Fabian Ferriera (Queens, NY) added 23 points and was 3 for 5 from beyond the arc.

The men return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Lyndon State for a NAC contest.  The Hornets defeated the Eagles (70-66) the last time they met January 16th
