Green Mountain escapes with double overtime win 71-69

The Maine Maritime Academy Mariners lost in double overtime to Green Mountain College, 71-69, on Saturday afternoon in a conference match-up at Margaret Smith Gymnasium. Rich Bailey (Bronx, NY) made 4 free throws and the game-winning basket with 6 seconds left to lift the visitors to victory.

With the win, Green Mountain improves to 9-5 on the season, and 1-3 in conference while MMA falls to 5-11 with the loss and 1-4 in conference play.

Jake Manner (Frankfort, ME) led the Mariners with 17 points and had a career high 18 rebounds while Derek DiFrederico (Millinocket, ME) poured in 17 points of his own. Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME) had an outstanding game for MMA scoring 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Mike Wharff (Sangerville, ME) had 12 points on four three pointers.

The Eagles, were led by Rui Carmo, who scored a team high 18 points and collected 8 rebounds in the win. Rich Bailey (Bronx, NY) was Green Mountain's second leading scorer with 17 points, while Fabian Ferreira (Queens, NY) chipped in with 16 points. Gerard Johnson (Binghamton, NY) led the Eagles with 12 rebounds.
