Johnson State Silences Eagles on the Road

In a North Atlantic Conference game Tuesday night, the visiting Badgers from Johnson State College used a superior rebounding and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to beat the Green Mountain College Eagles on the road (60-54).

JSC, led by senior Bobby Shedd (Johnson, VT) (18 points, 11 rebounds), held the Eagles to only 4 points in the final 5:59 of the game to claim a 6-point victory, 60-54.  In a game that featured 17 lead changes, it was the Badgers who were able to pull away in the final minutes thanks to excellent free throw shooting and stifling defense. Trailing by 3 with :19 left, Leandro Martinez (Philadelphia, PA) sunk two free throws to put the game out of reach.

Trailing by 1, (31-30) at halftime, the Eagles quickly regained the lead after break, but could not pull away as JSC kept the advantage to 3 points.  After shooting 44% in the first half, GMC could not find their shooting touch finishing the second half 33.3% from the field.

The Eagles were led by senior Fabian Ferreira (Queens, NY) with 19 points on 4-7 shooting from beyond the arc.  Junior Rui Carmo (Cape Coral, FL) tallied 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in the lose.

The Eagles fall to (8-4) on the season and (0-2) in the conference while JSC improves to (8-4) and (2-0).

GMC returns to action this weekend with a 2 game road trip to NAC opponents Husson and Maine Farmington.
