GMC Keeps Tourney Title Home!
Poultney, VT (Sunday, December 9, 2007) - The Championship match of the Green Mountain men's basketball Invitational Tournament lived up to it's billing as the Green Mountain College Eagles (7-1) played host to the Anna Maria Amcats (5-4). The pace was feverish at times and the sharp shooting Amcats looked to break the Eagles down. The Eagles' resiliency was up to the challenge.
Anna Maria came out firing from long range but the GMC (8-1) swarming defense held them to 3-11 from range as senior guard Adam Fisher's (Miami, FL) 17 points helped the Eagles to a 33-26 halftime lead. At the end of the night Fisher would score 30 and come up with 7 boards and 3 steals with an All-Tournament Honor. Senior forward Doug Hammond (Brooklyn, NY) would also have a say in the night's events go for his second double-double in as many nights with 20 points and 17 'bounds. Hammond also nabbed All-Tournament Team selection as well as Tournament MVP.
The Amcats (5-5) were served well by freshman guard Ryan Brown (Worcester, MA) who tallied 13 points. Freshman guard Tyler Washington (Milford, MA) scored 11 points and grabbed 14 boards for the Amcats. Senior forward James Daigneault (Worcester, MA) and freshman guard Junior DeLaHoz (Lawrence, MA) were honored with All-Tournament Honors.
