GMC Advances to Championship
Poultney, VT (Saturday December 8, 2007) - The second match of the Green Mountain Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament saw Green Mountain (6-1) played host to the University of Maine at Presque Isle (0-5). Green Mountain took the court with a purpose in front of a stellar crowd of 300 ready to play solid fundamental ball. They did not disappoint and even entertained the crowd through the first half heading into the locker room with a 41-16 lead.
The second half was a different story as the Owls from Presque Isle came out with completely different thoughts finishing the second half outscoring the Eagles 34-30. The Eagles finished the game with 19 turnovers vs. UMPI's 15 and the Owls pressed the issue to the end.
UMPI's senior guard Thomas Wire (Watford Herts, UK) jumped in 14 points going 4 for 12 from 3 point range. Senior forward Michael Latchford (Stirling, ON) put down 10 points and grabbed 7 boards on 29 minutes wroth of work.
Green Mountain's senior forward Doug Hammond (Brooklyn, NY) dropped in a double-double with 27 points, 17 rebounds and added 5 blocks on the night. Senior guard Adam Fisher (Miami, FL) contributed 13 points, dished 7 assists, and grabbed 8 'bounds. Junior guard Fabian Ferreira (Queens, NY) put in 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to help GMC to a 7-1 record on the season.
The Owls from Presque Isle will face Keystone College in the Consolation round tomorrow at 1 PM while Green Mountain will step into their third Tournament Championship round of the season against Anna Maria at 3 PM.
