Eagles Beat The Buzzer to Drop Castleton

Castleton falls at buzzer to Green Mountain 80-77
Castleton, VT-Green Mountain College's Fabian Ferreira drained
a
three-pointer with just 1.4 seconds remaining to defeat Castleton
State
College 80-77 in men's basketball action at Glenbrook Gymnasium.
Castleton trailed 35-30 at the half as Doug Hammond scored 17 of
his
game-high 34 points over the first 20 minutes. The Spartans opened
the
second half on a 10-4 run to grab the lead three minutes into the
second
half, before Green Mountain regained it two minutes later, as the
game
would see 10 lead changes in the second half.
The Spartans would seemingly take control with just under three
minutes
to play as they stretched the lead to 75-70. Green Mountain battled
back
yet again and cut the lead to one on an Adam Fisher lay up with
43
seconds remaining. Castleton tried to run clock, but a turnover and
foul
put Hammond on the line for a pair of free throws. Hammond would
make
one of two to set up Ferreira's heroics.
Josh Howe paced the 14-10 Spartans with 22 points, while Chris
Young
added 12 points and 15 rebounds for his sixth consecutive
double-double.
Joey Farley and Richard Reilly also chipped in double figures with
15
and 11 respectively.
Hammond hauled in 20 rebounds to go with his 34 point night.
Ferreira
ended the night with 15 points off the bench while Nolfris
Williams
added 16 and Fisher chipped in 10 for the 18-5 Eagles.
Green Mountain will take on Word of Life to finish out its
regular
season Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
Castleton will round out its regular season Friday evening with
an 8:00
pm match up with Johnson State.
