Green Mountain Tops MCLA, 75-65
Poultney, VT (Saturday, February 9, 2008) - Green Mountain put the first three point shot in and kept the lead the entire game. The first half was devastating to the Trailblazers as they had to dig themselves out of a 35-16 halftime hole. Dig they did though outscoring the Eagles 49-40 in the second half but never getting close enough. The first half was played at a quiet pitch but the electricity could be felt in the gym in the second as a fervent pace ensued and MCLA pressed the Eagles creating what could have been an upset had the Eagles not shot as well as they did from beyond the arc (8-23).
Senior forward Diante Ellis (Jacksonville, FL) put his stamp on the game with a double-double scoring 18 and snatching 13 boards. Senior center Henry Schrader (Fitchburg, MA) was a crowd silencer scoring 14 and grabbing 8 rebounds while senior guard Shalka Rivera (Springfield, MA) was busy everywhere scoring 9, assisting 4, and swiping 3 on the night.
Green Mountain was led by senior forward, AD3I Conference Player of the Week, and D3Hoops Team of the Week member Doug Hammond (Brooklyn, NY) who scored 20 and grabbed 16 rebounds. Junior forward Herley Pellew (Brooklyn, NY) also handled a double-double with 11 points, and 10 boards while fellow junior guard Fabian Ferreira (Queens, NY) chipped in 20 on the effort.
MCLA (6-14) will travel to MASCAC foe Bridgewater State for a 7:30 tip-off this Tuesday. Green Mountain (16-4) will host AD3I member Southern VT on Tuesday at 7 PM.
