NEC Sails past Green Mountain
Henniker, NH - The New England College Pilgrims snapped a five game losing streak beating the Green Mountain Eagles 87-69 Monday evening. The win improves the Pilgrims to 5-12 overall, while the loss drops the Eagles to 12-4 on the season.
New England College would open the game on a 16-4 run but Green Mountain would hit four three-pointers in a two minutes span to cut the Pilgrim lead to 27-23 with 8:37 remaining in the half. The Pilgrims would answer finishing the half on an 11-2 run to head into halftime with the 44-31 lead.
The Pilgrims would continue their hot shooting in the second half building an 18 point lead early. Green Mountain would again battle back to get within eight with 12:22 left in the game but NEC would out rebound the Eagles 26-18 in the second half alone and go on to capture the 87-69 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Kingsley Onyechi (Lowell, Mass.) who finished with a a double-double including 20 points and 11 rebounds. NEC's Ryan Jaziri (Norwich, Conn.) finished with a team-high 25 points and Joe Brown (Great Mills, Md.) chipped in 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Pilgrims.
Leading the way for Green Mountain was Fabian Ferreira (Queens, N.Y.) who finished with a team-high 25 points. Green Mountain's Peter Horton (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished with a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Nolfris Williams (New Orleans, La.) chipped in 17 points for the Eagles.
