Green Mountain Uses OT to Get Around Hartwick, 88-86
Poultney, VT (Tuesday, September 15, 2008) - Hartwick burst on the scene early in the first half extending a hot streak to a 17-7 lead before the Eagles from Green Mountain added the dose of emotion that the Hawks had obviously possessed. Slowly beating down the lead until 6:30 left in the first, Green Mountain took the lead and would not relinquish it until 2:02 left in the second. The teams went to the locker at half with GMC in the lead 44-34.
The second half and OT proved why College Basketball is so exciting with high tempo and high emotion being constant. The Hartwick Hawks (6-7) were led by two players who dumped in 73 out of their 86 points on the night. Junior guard Jan Cocozziello (Scotch Plains, NY) scored 39 points going 17-33 shooting and junior guard A.J. Beaulieu (Chicopee, MA) scored 34 points going 6-11 from beyond the arc.
Green Mountain (12-2) played a more balanced scoring act being led by senior forward Doug Hammond (Brooklyn, NY) who proffered a double-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and added 6 blocks. Senior guard Adam Fisher (Miami, FL) added 24 points while dishing 8 assists going 2-3 from 3-point land and junior guard Fabian Ferreira (Queens, NY) scored 17 going 8-11 from the charity stripe.
Green Mountain hosts Eastern Connecticut State in Poultney this Thursday, September 17th at 7 PM.
