Eagles Use OT To down Cyclones

Hakcettstown, NJ - Green Mountain needed overtime to pull out their first victory of the new year, in defeating Centenary on the road 73-70. The Eagles trailed early, and were behind 32-31 at the half-time break. GMC came out strong in the second half, building a second half lead of as many as 9 with ten minutes remaining in the game. Centenary mounted a comeback, outscoring the Eagles 10-2 over the next several minutes. A Cyclone three pointer by William Atkinson with 1:37 remaining tied the game at 59, and both teams failed to capitalize on late game shot opportunities. After trading baskets early in the overtime, Centenary pulled ahead, and led by three points 70-66 with 1:06 remaining. Fisher drove, scored, got fouled and made the free throw with 43.9 seconds remaining pulling GMC to within one trailing 70-69. After a defensive stop, Fisher again raced the court to score the go-ahead basket with 24.9 seconds left in OT, giving GMC a 71-70 lead. After a Centenary miss, Fisher was fouled with 7.1 seconds remaining and made both free throws, and a Centenary three pointer at the buzzer fell short. Adam Fisher led the way for GMC, scoring 39 points(including 12 in the overtime period), pulling down 9 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. Doug Hammond chipped in 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks.

The Eagles improve to 9-1 on the season, and return to action on Wednesday January 9th with a home game versus Western Connecticut St. at 6pm.
