Coach Labate is a native of Northport Long Island, where he played in an extremely competitive athletic program. He was a member of both the varsity soccer and varsity lacrosse teams. He was awarded an athletics scholarship to attend New Hampshire College and played soccer for the Penmen in the fall of 1993.

In 1995, Coach Labate transferred to Castleton State College to peruse a career in teaching. At Castleton Coach Labate led his team to a regional playoff birth and conference championships. He returned to CSC as the assistant men's soccer coach from 1998-2000.

His life was missing something......lacrosse. As a middle school teacher in the Rutland area, Coach Labate started a lacrosse program from the ground up without financial support in the Rutland Public Schools district. His determination and passion for the sport resulted in one of the most successful lacrosse programs in the state of Vermont. He has coached clinics at the Rutland Area Field House for lacrosse youths of all ages. He coaches the Rutland Middle School lacrosse team where he teaches 8th grade social studies.

He was offered the lacrosse coaching position at Green Mountain College in January of 2005, after the departure of the previous coach. Since then, Coach Labate has been actively rebuilding the lacrosse program at GMC since the Div. II to Div. III institutional switch in athletics. He is also the manager of the Pickle Barrel Night Club in Killington, VT.

He resides in Rutland Town, Vermont with his wife and two daughters.
