Athletic Facilities

The Green Mountain College athletic facilities provide quality, scenic venues for all the varsity intercollegiate athletics programs along with several club teams.  The facilities are comprised of numerous natural grass outdoor game and practice fields, a cross-country course, softball field, and the Waldron Athletic Center (WAC).

The WAC serves as the center of GMC athletics housing the Eagle dome, swimming pool, athletic training room, Eagle Fitness Center, GMC hall of fame, locker rooms, and athletic staff offices.

Built in 1961, the WAC is named in honor of GMC alum Hicks B. Waldron (‘42).  A standout three-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball, Mr. Waldron attended Michigan University and the University of Minnesota following his graduation from Green Mountain Junior College.  A starting fullback for the Golden Gophers, he went on to play a season of semi-pro football for the Schenectady Packers after earning his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering before serving his country in the U.S. Navy.  Named to the board of trustees in 1972, Mr. Waldron was instrumental in the institutions transition from a two-year all-female college to the four-year co-educational college it is today.
